Director-General of Criminal Investigation: 997 narcotics cases in 2022

Manama, October 2 (BNA): The security achievement of reducing crime rates by 30%, announced by Interior Minister Major General Sheikh Rashid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, reflects security stability.

In this context, the Director General of Criminal Investigation and Forensic Sciences, Brigadier Abdulaziz Al-Rumaihi, highlighted the comprehensive efforts to build capacity in the field of drug control. He said that the launch of the national plan to combat narcotics and psychotropic substances comes to address drug issues.

He revealed that the recovery program helped 416 addicts. At the same time, the 996 hotline was launched this year to provide an easy and secure way to confidentially report drug cases. The hotline has so far received 1,049 cases.

He referred to the directorate’s awareness-raising role by giving lectures in schools, mosques, community centers (blackened), work sites and clubs.

In 2021, he said, a total of 1,048 cases were registered, resulting in 1,229 arrests. Anti-drug police revealed 997 cases from the beginning of 2022 until September 25. The confiscations amounted to 1197 pieces. The anti-drug elements have contributed to the arrest of 73 suspects during the past three months, in cooperation with the concerned authorities. The value of the confiscation of the detainees reached thousands of dinars.

He praised the regional cooperation between the Gulf states from January 1, 2021 to September 1, 2022, which reached coordination that included about eight cases.
