Derasat forum to focus on impact of energy transition in MENA region

Manama, February 24 (BNA) The Middle East and North Africa region, as a technology leader in green energy and the circular carbon economy (CCE), will be high on the agenda of the symposium to be held next week in Bahrain.


The Bahrain Center for Strategic, International and Energy Studies (Derasat) will host the fifth annual Middle East and North African Studies Forum under the title “The Impact of Energy Transition in the Middle East and North Africa”.


Other topics to be addressed by elite experts, speakers and researchers from more than 10 countries include the advancement of green energy in the MENA region, artificial intelligence and energy transformation in the MENA region, and green uses of fossil fuels in the era of sustainability.


Sessions will focus on the current contribution of the MENA region to green energy research and development and the circular carbon economy, including hydrogen as well as international policies and practices that support CCE and how their impact on both the environment and the economy can be measured.


The nature of financial and regulatory support for green energies in the MENA region and the main obstacles facing the MENA region in making a greater contribution will also be addressed.


It will also discuss ways of artificial intelligence techniques to contribute to the transition to green energy in the Middle East and North Africa, the main obstacles to benefiting from artificial intelligence and the risks associated with the use of artificial intelligence.

Questions that speakers will answer include the extent to which the prevailing energy mix results from subsidies and appropriate legal support for green energy, and whether the societal benefits provided by green energies justify the cost of the financial and regulatory support provided.

It will also be discussed whether global competition gives governments an incentive to reduce pro-environmental regulation as part of the regulatory race to the bottom.
