Death toll from blasts in Pakistan ammunition store rises to 17 – police

Karachi, April 26 (BNA): The Pakistani police announced that the death toll from explosions Monday in a police ammunition depot in northwestern Pakistan has risen to 17.

Swat Valley Police Chief Shafiullah Kandapur said on Tuesday that among the dead were nine policemen, five detainees and three civilians.

More than 50 people were injured and several buildings collapsed in the area.

Gandapur said experts visited the site but found no evidence of the militants’ attack. Reuters reported that another police officer said after the explosions that the ammunition had caught fire, most likely from an electrical short.
