De Bruyne’s free kick gives Man City 1-0 win over Leicester

London, October 29 (BNA) Kevin De Bruyne’s free kick was enough to overcome the absence of Erling Haaland, while Manchester City advanced to the top of the Premier League with a 1-0 victory over Leicester on Saturday.

De Bruyne curled from 25 yards over a Leicester wall and across the post in the 49th minute to secure City’s one-point lead over Arsenal ahead of Arsenal’s game against Nottingham Forest on Sunday.

City dominated the first half but lacked a clear focal point in attack after Haaland was ruled out with an ankle problem, the first time the Norwegian striker has missed a game this season, according to the Associated Press.

Julian Alvarez got his second start of the season in the league instead, but couldn’t make many openings despite City camping in the Leicester half for most of the match.

Leicester manager Brendan Rodgers’ tactics were evident as the home side sat at the back and defended compactly while waiting for opportunities on the counter-attack.

Yuri Tillmans almost equalized for Leicester in the 53rd minute with a superb shot from outside the area that forced Ederson to stop when he sent the ball to the crossbar.

It was as close as Leicester got to saving a point. Substitute Kelechi Iheanacho missed two good chances when he shot wide after playing in the area and then saved somewhat comfortably from Ederson.
