DANAT participates in FEEG Symposium

Manama, September 18 (BNA) The Bahrain Institute of Pearls and Gemstones (Danat) participated in the European Federation for Education in Gemology (FEEG) symposium.

The symposium was held at the Arab World Institute (AWI) in Paris.

The conference featured an outstanding lineup of speakers and experts, including eminent gemologists from around the world, who gathered to offer testimonials to emerging gemologists in Europe.

DANAT became the only Arab and non-European entity to join FEEG in 2021.

Nora Jamsheer, CEO of Danat, presented the history of the pearl industry and addressed the factors that influenced the demand for natural pearls.

Jamsheer addressed the recent challenges facing the gem industry due to the boom in lab-grown diamonds that were not advertised and sold to customers as natural diamonds.

“We are pleased to participate in the symposium, this collaboration with FEEG is a testament to our continuous pursuit of excellence, enabling us to position the Kingdom as a global authority in the pearling industry, and we look forward to leading Bahrain’s national plan to revive the pearl sector globally.”

She noted that the industry’s responsibility is to ensure disclosure and transparency to reduce threats from the luxury industry.

Reem Al Melila, Director of Research and Marine Biologist at Danat, presented the methodology of the research project to highlight Bahrain’s ongoing endeavors to assess the state of the Al Hayrat (pearl oyster family) in the Kingdom and the changes it has faced over the past decade.
