Czech Republic elects Petr Pavel as its President

Prague, Jan. 29 (BNA): The Czech Republic elected Petr Pavel as its president.

And the Emirates News Agency (WAM) stated that after a tie in the first round, Pavel defeated Andrej Babis, the former Czech Prime Minister, and obtained 57.8 percent of the vote against 42.2 percent, with more than 97 percent of the votes counted.

Pavel is scheduled to take office in March, succeeding current Czech President Milos Zeman.
