London, February 26 (BUS): It was a controversial VAR decision to be celebrated in the blue half of Manchester and regretted by both halves of Merseyside, reports the Associated Press.
Manchester City were protecting their 1-0 lead with Everton – after Phil Foden’s lucky 82nd minute goal – when midfielder Rodri appeared to miss a penalty in stoppage time when a spinning ball hit his outstretched right arm.
The referee on the field did not have good enough vision to see it and after a lengthy video review, it was judged that the ball hit Rodri high enough in his arm to not deserve a penalty kick.
City maintained a victory that pushed the Premier League champions to a six-point win over Liverpool, who had been hoping for a favor from their neighbour.
Everton could have done it.
Frank Lampard’s side frustrated City, and even looked dangerous on the counter-attack, only to accept an unfortunate goal that saw Bernardo Silva’s cross take two turns – from Mason Holgate and then Michael Keane – on its way to Foden.
The England striker made a touch and scored a close goal from Jordan Pickford.
