China reports fourth straight daily record of new COVID cases

Beijing, Nov. 27 (BNA): China recorded its fourth consecutive daily record of 39,791 new COVID-19 infections, of which 3,709 were symptomatic and 36,082 asymptomatic, according to the National Health Commission.

This compared to the previous day’s 35,183 new cases — 3,474 symptomatic cases and 31,709 asymptomatic infections, which China counts separately, according to Reuters.

Excluding imported infections, China reported 39,506 new domestic cases, of which 3,648 were symptomatic and 35,858 asymptomatic, up from 34,909 the previous day.

There was one new death, compared to none the previous day, bringing the total number of deaths to 5,233.

China’s capital and major cities are still struggling to contain the outbreak, with Chongqing and Guangzhou reporting the bulk of new infections.

Local government data showed that local cases in Beijing continued to rise, rising 66% to 4,307 cases from 2,595 the day before.

Chongqing, a southwestern city of 32 million, reported 8,661 new locally transmitted COVID-19 infections, an increase of nearly 15% from the 7,721 recorded the day before.

Local authorities said Guangzhou, a boom city in the south with a population of about 19 million, reported a slight decrease in local cases at 7,412 compared to 7,419 a day earlier.
