DUBAI, Nov. 3 (BUS) – Iconic French brand Chanel has drawn throngs of guests and some celebrities to witness the brand’s latest collection of resorts with a runway show in Dubai featuring stark two-tone pieces and an evening after Tuesday’s under wedding party. Simple white umbrella.
This was the second time Chanel had staged a cruise collection show in Dubai, a world-class hub and shopping city that attracts jet-setters and fashion connoisseurs to dress their best at any time of the day without shyness or fears of provoking a second look.
The Chanel Cruise 2021/22 collection by creative director Virginie Viard was first revealed almost in May due to the coronavirus pandemic, but was shown to a live audience for the first time in Dubai. The Associated Press (AP) reported that all guests in attendance had to prove vaccination against COVID-19 or show a negative virus test.
The outfits for this collection are inspired by founder Gabrielle “Coco” Chanel, and her friendship with French filmmaker and visual artist Jean Cocteau. Specifically, the group was inspired by the 1960’s experimental black and white film Cocteau.
The ready-to-wear collection captures modern and punk sensibilities with pieces featuring leather, fringe, beading, sequins and a Chanel tweed suit cut. Some bags from the collection also included fringe, as well as details redefined in the style of the poster’s perfect black quilted leather.
The shoes included pointed Mary Janes with metallic accents and gold-tip mid-calf stockings. Accessories included a black leather strap with a connecting pouch decorated with the Chanel Double C logo.
Fashion on the runway was matched only by fashion off the runway as the show’s guests dressed in Chanel, many of whom are loyal customers of the brand, sped through the adjacent doors of the after-party, which was marked by a surprise performance by singer John Legend. Among the celebrities in attendance were actress Penelope Cruz and several Arabic-speaking movie stars. The diverse crowd of Lebanese, French, South Asians, Koreans and others included many who traveled for the event.
The cheerful eclectic gathering contrasted with the simple idea of the rustic simplicity of the invitations, the aesthetic runway décor and after-party décor, inspired by the French countryside and the Chanel founder’s childhood convent.
