New York, Dec. 28 (BUS): US health authorities on Monday shortened the recommended isolation period for Americans with asymptomatic cases of COVID-19 to five days from the previous 10-day guidance.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention also said that people who are asymptomatic after isolation should follow five days of wearing a mask when they are near others.
It also recommended a five-day quarantine for those exposed to the virus who are not immunized or who are past six months of a second mRNA dose or more than two months after the Johnson & Johnson vaccine and have not yet been boosted. The quarantine period must be followed by strict use of the muzzle for an additional five days, according to Reuters.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, isolation separates patients with a contagious disease from those who are not, while quarantine separates and restricts the movement of people who have been exposed to an infectious disease to see if they are sick.
“The CDC’s updated recommendations for isolation and quarantine balance what we know about the spread of the virus with the protection provided by vaccination and booster doses,” CDC director Rochelle Wallinsky said in a statement.
The Federal Center for Disease Control (CDC) said last week that Omicron is responsible for 73% of coronavirus infections in the United States.
Penetrating infections are increasing among the fully vaccinated population, including those who have received a third booster dose. However, Omicron appears to cause milder symptoms in these people, some of whom have no symptoms at all.
White House medical advisor Anthony Fauci told CNN last week that limiting the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) quarantine recommendations to 10 days would help people without symptoms return to work or school, with Take appropriate precautions.
The CDC said that individuals who received a booster injection do not need to be quarantined after exposure, but should wear a mask for 10 days.
