Canadian Raonic withdraws from Australian Open with heel injury

Melbourne, December 25 (BNA) – Organizers announced today, Saturday, the withdrawal of Canadian Milos Raonic from the Australian Open next month, as the former world number three continues to recover from a heel injury.

Raonic sustained a thigh injury in March and returned to the tour after a three-month hiatus. But the 2021 season was cut short by another heel problem after losing the first round at the Atlanta Open in July, Reuters reported.

“Milos Raonic has withdrawn from #AusOpen while continuing to recover from an Achilles tendon injury,” Grand Slam organizers said on Twitter.

Raonic, who turns 31 on Monday, reached world number three in his career in 2016 – the year he reached the Wimbledon finals and reached the semi-finals at Melbourne Park.

The Canadian, who is currently down to 70th place, is the latest to be disqualified from the Australian Open, with Roger Federer, Stan Wawrinka, Jennifer Brady, Karolina Pliskova, Karolina Muchova, Serena Williams and Bianca Andreescu also ruled out due to injuries.
