Canada win women’s 4x400m relay gold after England are disqualified

Birmingham, Aug. 8 (BNA): Canada won the Commonwealth Games women’s 4 x 400m relay gold on Sunday after England crossed the finish line first but was disqualified for a lane violation.

Reuters reported that Jesse Knight, who was a broadcaster, thought he had won by a thousandth of a second over Canadian Keira Constantine after completing the photo shoot.

Victoria Ohurogo, Jodi Williams and Ama Bibi celebrated alongside Knight at Alexander Court, believing that England had snatched their eighth gold medal at these games.

However, the stewards later found out that Williams’ foot had veered off course in the first change with Ohuruogu and disqualified the team.

Canada was promoted to the gold while Jamaica took the silver and Scotland took the bronze.
