Bus falls into deep ravine in southwest Pakistan, killing 19

A passenger bus skidded off a mountain road and plunged into a deep ravine amid heavy rain in southwest Pakistan on Sunday, killing 19 people and injuring 12 others, a government official said.

Mehtab Shah, assistant director of Shirani district in Balochistan province, said about 35 passengers were on the bus. He said rescue workers are searching for survivors in the wreckage of the destroyed vehicle and its surroundings, the Associated Press reported.

Shah said the bus apparently skidded on a rainy road in heavy rain and the driver lost control of the vehicle, which plunged 200 feet (61 metres) into the narrow valley.

Last month, 22 people were killed in a similar accident when a bus fell into a valley in the Saifullah Castle area.
