BTEA backs SSL Gold Cup Final Series 2022

Manama, September 18 (BNA) The final series of the 2022 SSL GOLD CUP Championship – the inaugural edition of the Sailing Championships – has been awarded the strategic partnership of the Bahrain Tourism and Exhibitions Authority (BTEA).


The Sailing Athletes Foundation (SAF), in association with the Bahrain Marine Sports Federation, is hosting the SSL GOLD CUP, a special global sailing event, for the first time in Bahrain from 28 October to 20 November.


The SSL GOLD CUP Cup gives an individual challenge equal opportunity to all 40 nations racing on the same boat, the SSL47, a 14m performance racing boat, presented by the organizers.


These countries are the 23 largest in the world, 16 teams from the qualifying series and SSL team Bahrain, the host country.


Eleven athletes from each squad are from all shore sailing classes, including Olympic champions, medalists, Olympians, and world champions.


The Kingdom will be represented in the competition by the best Bahraini athletes.


The Players Association for Al Sheraa has nominated Abdullah Janahi as the team leader. The Bahrain squad will be known as the “Bahraini Shark”.


Dr. Nasser Qaidi, CEO of BTEA, explained how the authority’s support for the 2022 SSL GOLD CUP Final is part of its commitment to promoting various sporting events in Bahrain, investing in its growth, and increasing operating rates and revenues for the tourism sector.


“Hosting the 2022 SSL Gold Cup is an important sporting event and an opportunity to support sports tourism in the Kingdom,” said Dr. Kaidi.

“We are keen to give this world championship the assistance it needs and will extend a warm welcome to all competing teams, as well as their supporters and comrades from other countries.”


Dr. Qaidi emphasized that Bahrain has always taken the lead in hosting international sporting events, such as the World Military Championship and the Kingdom Sailing Yachting Championship, in addition to the Formula 1 Bahrain Grand Prix since 2004, the 2017 Asian Cycling Championship, and the MMA World Amateur Championship. The tournament in 2017, 2018, and 2019, and other global and continental tournaments, which had a positive impact on many sectors, especially tourism.


Sheikh Khalifa bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, President of the Bahrain Marine Sports Federation, said that with the support of the Bahrain Marine Sports Authority, the 2022 SSL Gold Cup Series Finals in Bahrain is gaining unprecedented momentum and becoming more famous locally, regionally and internationally, especially in light of the rise. In the interest and enthusiasm for this category of water sports.


Sheikh Khalifa confirmed that the SSL Gold Cup Final Series will become an international sporting event that originated in Bahrain and is heading towards globalization.


He added that the organizers are keen to organize this tournament in a prestigious manner in line with the aspirations of the Bahrain Tourism Authority, Bahrain and all sports fans.
