Brighton wins 3-2 at Everton, adding to pressure on Benitez

London, Jan 2 (BUS): Alexis McAllister scored twice to lead Brighton to a 3-2 win over Everton, adding to the pressure on coach Rafael Benitez on Sunday.

Even Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s long-awaited return after nearly five months out with a thigh injury failed to turn Everton’s fortunes around, with the striker’s primary contribution being a first-half penalty miss.

By then, the hosts were already 2-0 down after Mac Alister’s opener in the third minute which was followed by a header from Dan Byrne in the 21st minute, according to the Associated Press.

Everton conceded the first goal for the 14th time in 20 Premier League matches this season and the seventh time in a row.

While academy graduate Anthony Gordon scored his first two goals for Everton in the 53rd and 76th minutes, McAlister’s second between that brace made it an unhappy start to 2022 for Benitez, whose side has now won only once in their last 12 games.

Everton are 15th out of the 20 teams, while Brighton are 8th.
