Brazilian Supreme Court justice mandates proof of vaccination to enter country

Brasilia, Dec. 12 (BNA): Brazil’s Supreme Court Judge Luis Roberto Barroso has ruled that the country must require proof of vaccination for visitors seeking to enter the country.

Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro has repeatedly denied requests from state health organization Anvisa to demand proof of vaccination from visitors, Reuters reported.

But Barroso said in his decision that Brazil should avoid supporting what he called “anti-vaccination tourism”.

The judge said that the requirement to prove vaccination can only be waived when the traveler comes from a country where vaccines are not available or the individual has been prevented from being vaccinated for health reasons.

The government has postponed for a week a regulation requiring unvaccinated visitors to quarantine for five days, due to a hacker attack on the Ministry of Health on Friday.
