Boris Johnson scraps remaining COVID restrictions in England

London Feb 22 (BUS): British Prime Minister Boris Johnson has scrapped England’s latest domestic coronavirus restrictions, including the requirement to isolate people with COVID-19 themselves.

The Associated Press reported that Johnson told lawmakers in the House of Commons that the country was “moving from government restrictions to personal responsibility” as part of a plan to treat COVID-19 like other infectious diseases like the flu.

It marked the end of “two of the darkest and most bleak years in our peacetime history,” he said.

“Today is not the day we declare victory over Covid, because this virus will not go away,” Johnson said in a televised news conference.

Johnson confirmed that mandatory self-isolation for people with COVID-19 will end from Thursday and routine contact tracing of infected people will stop. People will still be advised to stay at home if they are sick, but they will no longer receive additional financial support.
