Booster shot protocols reviewed to include eligible individuals 18 and over who are fully vaccinated

Manama, September 23 / BNA / After the approval of the Government Executive Committee, the National Medical Task Force to Combat Corona Virus (Covid-19), announced the approval of a booster injection for those aged 18 years and over, who received a second injection of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine or AstraZeneca (Covishield) or Sputnik V at least six months ago.

Eligible individuals may choose the Pfizer-BioNtech vaccine as a booster injection, or the same vaccine they received for their first and second doses, as a booster injection.

The task force noted that those ages 18 to 39, who had taken their second dose of Sinopharm at least three months ago, could take a booster dose, instead of the initial 6-month recommendation.

The task force further announced the approval of a second dose of the Pfizer-BioNtech vaccine for individuals who recovered from COVID-19, and received a single dose of the Pfizer-BioNtech vaccine.

The task force also added that individuals who have recovered from COVID-19, can receive a vaccine for three months from the date of infection, and a booster dose for 12 months from the date of infection.

The working group indicated that vaccination protocols were developed in line with the Kingdom of Bahrain’s comprehensive efforts to combat COVID-19 and protect public health.
