Washington, Apr. 21 (BNA) President Joe Biden will formally announce his 2024 campaign next week, according to three people briefed on the discussions Thursday.
The people, who spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss internal deliberations, said they were not aware a final decision had been made on the timing, but that Biden was looking forward to Tuesday, April 25, four years to the day the Democratic Party entered the 2020 race. Biden, 80, has said repeatedly that he intends to run for a second term, but advisers say he has not felt the need to campaign because he faces little opposition for his party’s candidacy.
Biden has focused in recent months on implementing the massive infrastructure, technology investment and climate laws passed during his first two years in office, displaying a sharp contrast with Republicans as Washington prepares for a battle over raising the country’s borrowing limit.
