BIBF to host a seminar on transition to net-zero on Wednesday

Manama, Jan. 9 (BNA): The Bahrain Institute of Banking and Finance (BIBF) will host a seminar on the basics of sustainable development and the net-zero transition, on Wednesday, January 11.

The symposium is being hosted as part of the Middle East Sustainability Forum, which is being organized by Finnmark from January 11-12 under the theme: “Business Transition to Grid Zero – The Path to a Successful Low Carbon Future”.

The seminar – which will be held at the Institute’s headquarters in Bahrain Bay – will be delivered by Zeb Askar, Head of Banking and Financial Services Department at Bahrain Institute of Banking and Finance, who will shed light on the fundamentals and importance of sustainable development, with a focus on environmental, social, corporate governance and transformation. towards net zero.

The benefits and heightened sense of urgency associated with changing corporate mindset and culture will also be highlighted, looking at the principles behind how companies can “do well while doing good” by internalizing the commitment to the Sustainable Development Goals to re-engineer “how” business is done .

In addition to discussing developments on a global and regional level, the symposium will examine the relationship between resilience, sustainability, business growth and expansion.

In line with the Kingdom’s commitment to reach net zero carbon emissions by 2060, the symposium aims to raise awareness of the importance of partnerships between the public and private sectors and how they can contribute to achieving national, regional and global goals to achieve net zero. Notably, the Middle East Sustainability Forum is set to bring together more than 300 senior decision-makers and sustainability experts to address regional decarbonization targets and drive private sector mobilization to support the achievement of national and regional net zero targets.
