BIBF launches new bachelor’s degree in Data Science and Business Analytics by University of London

Manama, August 2 (BNA): The Bahrain Institute of Banking and Finance (BIBF) announced the launch of a new Bachelor’s degree in Data Science and Business Analytics, awarded by the University of London, with academic guidance from the London School of Economics. (LSE). The new programme, starting in September 2022, will provide free seats for the top achievers.

Dr. Ahmed Al-Sheikh, Director of BIBF stated that the institute will provide free seats to encourage outstanding students to enroll in future majors such as data science. The programme, which came in response to the increasing demand of today’s local and international job market, aims to prepare students for more important job roles while meeting the growing demand for data analysts – one of the most important jobs of the future.

Dr. Al-Sheikh indicated that prior to the launch of the program, BIBF conducted several studies, questionnaires and interviews with various stakeholders. It was clear that the local job market lacked the data science skills that are much needed today. To fill this gap, the BIBF has decided to partner with globally recognized institutions to deliver an integrated and effective program in this growing field.

Head of the BIBF Academic Centre, Dr Raja Bhojiri, stated that the new program was introduced in collaboration with the University of London with the academic direction of the London School of Economics, which is among the top 10 universities in the UK and one of the best in the world. It stated that to qualify for the program, students must have completed a matriculation certificate (equivalent to a high school diploma) with a minimum of 85%, 90% in Mathematics, and 85% in English. (IELTS score 6.0). Also, applicants will have to pass the Mathematics and English Entrance Test conducted by the BIBF Assessment Centre.

Data science has become one of the fastest growing fields in recent years. With the massive influx of data, humans are finding it increasingly difficult to process data through traditional methods. It was clear that new computer-based methods for analyzing and processing data were needed. At this point, data science applications are designed. By learning these applications, students can gain a better understanding of computing fundamentals, statistics, and advanced technologies (such as artificial intelligence and machine learning).

A bachelor’s degree in Data Science and Business Analytics prepares students for graduate opportunities and rewarding careers in data science, analytics, and other in-demand fields.

The degree will also provide students with basic training in probability, statistics, mathematics, and computing tools. These tools provide better visualization and analysis of large data sets, enabling students to extract valuable insights from data. In addition to the methodology, the program places a strong emphasis on finance, economics, business, marketing, and beyond.

The program also provides students with the essential knowledge and skills to understand the big data picture and provide effective solutions to real-world problems. After completing the program, students will be better able to develop skills in applying statistical and machine learning techniques, have a good knowledge of the principles of applications of probability and statistics, and gain practical skills in applied data science and business analytics, which help companies make more informed decisions.
