Berrettini retains Queen’s title, looking good for Wimbledon

London, June 19 (BUS): Matteo Berrettini looks in perfect shape for another deep run at Wimbledon, reports the Associated Press.

The Italian, the second seed, retained the Queen’s Club title on grass by defeating Filip Krajinovic 7-5, 6-4 in the final on Sunday. He cemented his title win in Stuttgart last week, which was also on grass.

Wimbledon begins on June 27 and Berrettini heads to the All England Club after winning 20 of his last 21 matches played on grass – his only loss to Novak Djokovic in four sets in last year’s Wimbledon final.

Krajinovic was a surprise in the West London final, having not won an ATP-level grass match before this week, and the 30-year-old usually tries to skip the grasscourt events if he can.

His serve wasn’t big enough to threaten tall Berrettini, who gave up just two break points and sent 14 aces – more than double what Krajinovic had scored.

The last of those came on match point, after which he shot a ball high into the sky and jumped on billboards to celebrate with his team and then his father on Father’s Day.

Berrettini has joined Lleyton Hewitt, Andy Roddick, Andy Murray, Marin Cilic and Feliciano Lopez in winning multiple titles at the Queen’s since the turn of the century.

He has won every match since returning to action in Stuttgart after three months out with a hand injury.

Krajinovic has lost for the fifth consecutive time in the ATP Final, with two of them now facing Berrettini.
