Belgium’s Doku out of qualifier as De Bruyne named new captain

Brussels, March 22 (BNA): The Belgian Football Association announced the withdrawal of striker Jeremy Duques from the Belgium squad that will play the European Football Championship qualifier on Friday against Sweden, and the friendly match that will be held next week in Germany due to a muscle injury.

Doku, 20, returned to Ligue 1 club Stade Rennes for treatment and was replaced by 19-year-old Johan Bakayoko, who plays for Dutch club PSV Eindhoven, according to Reuters.

Belgium trained for the first time on Tuesday under new coach Domenico Tedesco, who named Kevin De Bruyne captain of the new team.

De Bruyne takes charge, succeeding Eden Hazard, who retired from international football after Belgium failed to pass the group stage in the World Cup in Qatar.
