Barty finishes year as WTA’s No. 1 for 3rd consecutive time

St. Petersburg, November 18 (BUS): Wimbledon champion Ash Party took first place in the WTA singles rankings for the third consecutive season, while Katrina Siniakova topped the doubles rankings for the second time.

Barty, 25 from Australia, joins Serena Williams, Stevie Graf, Martina Navratilova and Chris Evert as the only women to have topped the tennis rankings by the end of the year three times in a row, AP reports.

This week is Barty’s 95th in a row at the top of the WTA and 102nd overall. Barty’s All England Club title in July was her second Grand Slam title. She also won the 2019 French Open and soon after climbed to number one for the first time in June of that year.

Siniakova will knock out her title on Wednesday at the WTA Finals ending in Guadalajara, Mexico, along with doubles partner Barbora Krijsikova. Sinyakova, a 25-year-old from the Czech Republic finished 2018 as a common number. 1 in doubles with Krejcikova.
