Sao Paulo, October 26 (BNA) The Spanish club announced that Barcelona will play Argentine giant Boca Juniors next December, on the occasion of the first anniversary of the death of its former player Diego Maradona.
“Barcelona and Atletico Boca Juniors will play the Maradona Cup on December 14, a match in honor of Diego Armando Maradona when you remember the first anniversary of his death,” Barcelona said in a statement.
Boca confirmed that he will participate in the match and said that it will be held at the Mursool Stadium in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, according to what was reported by Reuters.
Maradona died of a heart attack on November 25, 2020 after suffering ill health and undergoing emergency surgery due to a subdural hematoma.
The Argentine played for Barcelona and Boca in a famous career that included victories in both countries. He famously led Argentina to their 1986 World Cup victory in Mexico.
