Barcelona makes offer to Bayern for Lewandowski

Barcelona, July 7 (BNA): The president of the Spanish Football Club Barcelona announced, on Thursday, that Barcelona submitted an offer to Bayern Munich to buy star Robert Lewandowski.

“We have made an offer to the player and are waiting for a response,” Barcelona president Joan Laporta said. “We thank the player for showing his interest in our club.”

Lewandowski stated in late May that “my story with Bayern Munich is over” and that a move to a new club would be the best solution, according to the Associated Press.

The 33-year-old Polish striker has another season on his contract with the Bundesliga giants.

Contract extension talks between Bayern Munich and Lewandowski have collapsed this season and both sides have given different reasons. And while the club said the player rejected his offer, his agent said Bayern had never made an offer.

Barcelona seeks to rebuild its attack a year after the departure of Lionel Messi. He finished last season without a title, came in a second by a large margin for champions Real Madrid in the Spanish League and failed to get out of the group stage of the Champions League.

The Catalan club is mired in debt. It recently sold 10% of the TV rights to La Liga for the next 25 years for just over €200 million ($203 million). He will use some of that to sign new players.

This week new signings Frank Casey and Andreas Christensen were included to strengthen their midfield and defence, respectively. Lewandowski will be a powerful boost to his attack.
