Barcelona fight back to reach Europa League quarter-finals

Madrid, March 18 / BNA / Barcelona fought to win 2-1 at Galatasaray Stadium on Thursday and advance to the quarter-finals of the European League 2-1 on aggregate after a goalless tie in the first leg.

Reuters reported that Brazilian defender Marcao gave the Turkish team the lead in the 28th minute with a header from a corner kick.

Pedri scored the equalizer for Barcelona with a superb solo goal, receiving a pass from Ferran Torres and leaving two defenders on the ground with great skill before plunging into the net from close range.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang headed the post before the break and the former Arsenal striker put Barcelona ahead three minutes into the second half with a close-range header after two superb stops for Galatasaray goalkeeper Inaki Pena on loan from the Spanish club.

Rangers joined Barcelona in the quarter-finals despite losing 2-1 to Red Star Belgrade and advancing 3-2 on aggregate.

Mirko Ivanic gave hope to the Serbian side by scoring the first goal at the beginning of the first half, but the Scottish team kept the score and Ryan Kent equalized after the first half.

Alfred Ben’s injury-time goal was too little for Red Star. Braga drew 1-1 with Monaco and led 3-1 on aggregate after winning the first leg 2-0 in Portugal.

In Germany, Atalanta beat Bayer Leverkusen 1-0 thanks to a late goal from Jeremy Boga and advanced to the quarter-finals 4-2 on aggregate.
