Barcelona clears more cap room, sells Mingueza to Celta

Barcelona, Aug. 2 (BNA): Barcelona made room for more salaries on Tuesday with the sale of defender Oscar Mingueza to Celta Vigo.

Barcelona is trying to fulfill the rules of fair play in the Spanish League and register new players Robert Lewandowski, Ravenha and Jules Conde.

The club had already made up some space by loaning defender Clement Lenglet to Tottenham and striker Francisco Trincao to Sporting Lisbon, according to the Associated Press.

Financial details of Mingueza’s transfer were not immediately available, but Barcelona said it reserved the right to buy back the 23-year-old and retained the rights to 50% of his future sale. An initial agreement was reached with Celta in July.

Mingueza, who plays as a right-back or centre-back, is signed with Celta until 2026. He came through Barcelona’s academy before being promoted to the first team by coach Ronald Koeman in 2020.

Mingueza played 66 games for Barcelona in all competitions, and helped the team win the King’s Cup in 2021.
