Bahrain’s sustainable development achievements emphasised

Manama, May 27 (BNA): Minister of Sustainable Development, Noor bint Ali Al-Khalif, affirmed the Kingdom of Bahrain’s commitment to the United Nations Agenda 2030 and the Sustainable Development Goals. The kingdom presented the “key messages” of the second voluntary national review of progress in implementing the goals, before presenting the report during the High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF) in July 2023.


The key messages emphasized the Kingdom’s institutional alignment with the Sustainable Development Goals under the leadership of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, and the support of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, guided by the constitution. The National Action Charter and Economic Vision 2030 which has identified “sustainability” as one of its guiding principles.


Minister Al-Khulaif stressed the transformative measures taken by the government to accelerate progress towards achieving the SDGs. The main messages indicated that the Kingdom has placed sustainability at the core of its development plans and strategies, most notably; In the current government plan (2023-2026), entitled “From Recovery to Sustainable Growth”, with its strong alignment with the Sustainable Development Goals on the social, economic and environmental fronts; The Economic Recovery Plan, launched in 2021, which calls for an inclusive, resilient, and sustainable recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic; And the establishment of the first Ministry of Sustainable Development in the region.


Referring to the theme of the 2023 High-Level Political Forum “Accelerating recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic and fully implementing the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development at all levels,” the key messages highlighted the Kingdom’s successful experience in combating the COVID-19 pandemic, which won it global recognition. to get to know.

The minister added that since preparing for the Kingdom’s first voluntary national review in 2018, Bahrain has witnessed an acceleration in facing major challenges, including the financial challenge, with the launch of the fiscal balance program, and environmental challenges, as the Kingdom announced its implementation. Commitment to reach net zero emissions by 2060.
