Manama on March 31 (US): Today, international healthcare professionals from Pfizer, Google and Meta joined Bahraini healthcare professionals for discussion at the Harvard COVID-19 International Symposium, held at the Wyndham Grand Hotel Manama, to discuss learning from the pandemic and successful mitigation actions in Bahrain.
The hybrid symposium, supported by CISCO and co-led and moderated by Harvard University, welcomed speakers from the Global Institutes of Health to contribute to panel discussions on “Geology, Surveillance, and Testing of the COVID-19 Pandemic” and “Therapeutic Efforts for COVID-19”, the global and national response to COVID -19, “Social Platforms and the Global Response to the COVID-19 Experience.”
The Chairman of the Supreme Council of Health, His Excellency Lieutenant-General Dr. Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, gave the keynote speech at the symposium, during which he highlighted Bahrain’s rapid and comprehensive response to the epidemic. His Excellency Lieutenant-General Dr. Sheikh Mohammed cited the directives of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and the leadership of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa as being essential to the success of the public health response in Bahrain.
During his speech, His Excellency Lieutenant-General Dr. Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdullah explained the strategies Bahrain has used to mitigate the spread and impact of the virus. The measures included the provision of polymerase chain reaction (PCR) tests, treatment of the injured, and leave for citizens and residents.
Bahrain was one of the first countries to provide access to all FDA-approved vacations, while also providing other effective vaccines, such as Sinopharm. Elsewhere, most entry restrictions on arrivals to Bahrain have been removed, and Bahrain International Airport is working to introduce a medical protocol dedicated to COVID-19 cases.
A strong multilingual media strategy supports Bahrain’s public awareness campaign, which presents regular epidemiological developments, stresses the need to follow restrictions, and encourages vaccination.

Harvard University spokeswoman Marcia Castro said: “It was a pleasure discussing the pandemic with my global peers including hearing Bahrain’s response to the pandemic. With the proportion of individuals vaccinated continuing to increase worldwide, Bahrain is a preventive rather than a reactive country with more than 82 % of the Bahraini population received two doses of the vaccine, and 85% of the eligible population received a booster dose.”
