Bahrain’s strides in upgrading its health, pharmaceutical system stressed

Manama, October 29 (BNA) The Chairman of the Supreme Council of Health, Lieutenant-General Dr. Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, praised the royal support of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa for the health sector.

He also praised the directives of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, to further improve health services to achieve the goals of Bahrain Vision 2030.

He referred to the health insurance project and the radical change that it requires in the financing, management and governance of the health sector.

In his opening speech today from the First Conference on Pharmacovigilance and Drug Safety, the Chairman of the Supreme Council of Health said that this two-day event is being held at a critical time when the Kingdom is witnessing a steady development in strengthening health services.

He stressed the importance of such conferences in supporting the ongoing efforts to advance the health sector and enhance cooperation among the GCC states.

In this context, he praised the success of the seventh meeting of the GCC Health Ministers Committee and the 84th meeting of the GCC Health Ministers Council, hosted by the Kingdom of Bahrain.

The Chairman of the Supreme Council of Health stressed that the Pharmacovigilance and Drug Safety Conference is an opportunity to highlight the efforts of the Council and the National Committee for the Unified Procurement of Medicines and Medical Supplies in supervising the strategic national stockpile of medicines and ensuring its proper management.

He pointed out that the challenges posed by the coronavirus (Covid-19) epidemic at the national and international levels underscore the urgent need to further develop the health system and enhance its effectiveness.

He noted that this would be a top priority for governments and international organizations as investing in health remains the best option.

The Chairman of the Supreme Council of the Conference wished all success, expressing his hope that it would come out with recommendations that enrich the national health plans in the Kingdom and the Gulf Cooperation Council countries and achieve sustainable cooperation and integration in various health and medical fields.
