Cairo, Feb. 11 (BNA): First Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Abdulnabi Salman, said that the Kingdom of Bahrain attaches great importance to food security.
He noted the support of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, noting that the issue of food security is very important for future generations.
The Deputy Speaker of Parliament was delivering a speech before the Fifth Conference of Parliament Speakers, which was held in Cairo, the Arab Republic of Egypt, from 8 to 11 February.
The Deputy Speaker of Parliament, who headed the Bahrain delegation to the conference, stressed the royal directives to the government’s legislative authority to find solutions that improve the quality of human life, especially in the field of achieving food security.
He pointed out that Bahrain took the initiative to adopt appropriate solutions to develop areas of self-sufficiency through the development and implementation of a strategic project for the production of national food.
He pointed to the allocation of multiple sites for fish farming and plant production, which mainly aim to develop national capabilities in the field of food industries and raise the proportion of local production.
He also highlighted the joint launch of the Food Security Strategy 2020-2030 between the Government of the Kingdom of Bahrain and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO).
