Bahraini triathletes shine in Abu Dhabi championship


Abu Dhabi, Nov. 29 (BNA): Bahraini Abdulrahman Al-Hassan won the community race for athletes in the age group 16-19 in the finals of the Triathlon World Championships, which were held on Yas Island, Abu Dhabi, on November 23 and 26.

Abdul Rahman Ali of India Srith Sodhi and Sridath Sodhi of Switzerland. Another Bahraini, Abdulaziz Mustafa, came in fourth place.

These feats are the latest sporting achievements Bahraini athletes have achieved on the world stage.

The president of the federation and head of the delegation, Abdullah Abdulsalam, dedicated the achievement to His Highness Sheikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, President of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports.

He also dedicated the victory to His Highness Sheikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa, First Deputy President of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports, President of the Public Authority for Sports, and President of the Bahrain Olympic Committee.

“This achievement is the result of the unlimited support the federation receives from His Highness Sheikh Nasser bin Hamad and the great interest and close follow-up of His Highness Sheikh Khalid bin Hamad,” he said.

He praised the honorable performance of the Bahraini champions in the world championship and said that it strengthens Bahrain’s position in triathlon competitions and reinforces the Federation’s aspirations to strive and achieve the best results in various international competitions.

The Championship Finals is the crown jewel of the annual World Triathlon calendar. The multi-day triathlon festival welcomed thousands of local, regional and international athletes to the capital of the United Arab Emirates as they witnessed the crowning of world champions in each of the elite, para and age categories.

The race was held for the first time in Abu Dhabi. Previous hosts have included London, Budapest, Beijing, Auckland, Chicago, Gold Coast, Lausanne and Edmonton.

Along with the World Championship races, the event has hosted community races for athletes of all ages and abilities, providing a unique opportunity for triathletes of age groups to compete on the same weekend, at the same venue, as the best in the world.
