Boudia: The Bahraini Farmers Market returns for its ninth edition at the Budaiya Botanical Garden in December after a year-long hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
This annual event is organized by Agriculture and Marine Resources (AMR) at the Ministry of Works, Municipalities Affairs and Urban Planning in partnership with the National Initiative for Agricultural Development (NIAD).
AMR is asking all companies, individuals, farmers and exhibitors wishing to participate to submit their applications for registration before the deadline.
The market has become an important event in the calendar of national activity in Bahrain, and it provides a great support to the agricultural sector, thanks to its position as a platform for marketing local agricultural products.
The Undersecretary for Agriculture and Marine Resources at the Ministry of Works, Municipalities Affairs and Urban Planning, Nabil Abu Al-Fath, praised the market for its ability to attract citizens, residents, Gulf residents and visitors.
He added that the market’s recovery after it was suspended last year due to the pandemic reflects the support of antimicrobial resistance for Bahraini farmers by providing sites that enable them to sell their products.
Abul-Fath indicated that cooperation with Nyad helped ensure the continuity of the remarkable successes achieved in previous versions of the market.
He pointed out that the Bahraini farmers’ market has become a catalyst for fair competition between Bahraini farmers who are keen to offer various agricultural products.
He added that the regular high turnout prompted farmers to take advantage of modern technologies in agriculture, which are in line with the strategy of antimicrobial resistance to maximize the contribution of the agricultural sector to achieving sustainable food security in Bahrain.
“The exceptional circumstances related to the Corona virus around the world imposed great precautionary measures in the market to ensure the safety of all people, limiting the opportunity to participate to farmers, companies and owners of nurseries, and those wishing to participate must submit an official request through the site.”
The ninth edition will be limited to shops selling local agricultural products and a number of restaurants without the accompanying recreational activities.
