Manama, Dec. 8 (BNA): Bahrain has emerged as a pioneer in implementing the strategy of taking initiatives for the latest technologies, including 5G spectrum, ahead of other countries in the region.
Afke Chart, Senior Vice President and Chief Global Impact Officer, Huawei, told Bahrain News Agency (BNA) that the Gulf region is very advanced when it comes to implementing technology along with many countries embarking on a new era of 5G and Bahrain. He was speaking on the sidelines of the Arab International Cybersecurity Exhibition and Conference (AICEC).
“Huawei is working with national telecom operators across the region from the testing phase to the final implementation of the 5G network. Telecom operators are very keen to reap the benefits of the latest technologies as part of their growth path moving forward,” she said. .
She specifically mentioned stc and Etisalat for taking an early initiative to modernize the telecom sector and being an innovative technology provider that Huawei remains committed to the development of the region.
She also praised the regional operators saying that the region is well ahead of the game, particularly when it comes to 5G rollouts.
“When we compare the Gulf region to Europe or other parts of the world, the Gulf region stands out as a success story.”
When asked about the first cybersecurity summit in Bahrain, she described the event as a remarkable success citing the rich topics at the summit including how cybersecurity is a challenge for every country.
“We have been urged by experts and regulators to consider Huawei’s cybersecurity strategy that is based on facts, and everyone can benefit from where we operate in nearly 170 countries around the world. Huawei adheres to all rules and regulations and our track record has been incredibly good.”
“First and foremost, it is important that the technology approach is fact-based, which means that it is based on analytics and that we work alongside our customers and with industry agencies and organisations. We also work alongside global organizations and trade bodies and with the United Nations and the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) So we are active on different platforms.”
“It is to ensure that we develop standards along with our industry, to standardize cyber security across the board for all of our products. Our product range is very broad, it stretches from mobile devices to cars to port mines, you name it; oil and gas, green technology is critically important. special going forward.”
She said that the Middle East region is well prepared to embrace the layers of security required for cybersecurity.
She added, in response to a question about whether the region is ready to embrace technology, including cyber security, there are regulations in place and are supported by the European Commission and European countries.
“One of our messages here in Bahrain is to make sure that the governments in the region investigate this as well, because you have to have the support of the governments and not just the industry, because they are really behind this. So, I am very hopeful for a very thriving tech environment where innovation can happen. , not only for our partners and operators but also for small and medium businesses.”
