Manama, June 8 (BNA): Logos Hope, the world’s largest floating bookstore, has docked at Khalifa bin Salman Port.

The opening of the book fair was hosted by the Ministry of Transportation and Communications, APM stations and the local agent Almoayyed Wilhelmsen, in cooperation with the German Embassy.

It is run by GBA Ships eV, a non-profit organization based in Germany, which operates ships that travel the world sharing knowledge, help and hope.

“APM Terminals Bahrain welcomes MV LOGOS HOPE to Khalifa Bin Salman Port and we are pleased to provide all necessary arrangements to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for both crew and visitors,” said Farouk Al Zubairi, CFO and Interim CEO of APM Terminals Bahrain. .

The ship visited 1,500 ports in more than 150 countries. It stays in each country for about two weeks. The members of the ship, who belong to 70 different nationalities, play an important humanitarian role as they visit orphanages and hospitals to help those in need by providing them with treatment services and sharing with them the culture of their countries.

Since all of its members are volunteers, most of the proceeds from The Floating Book Fair go to charities.

“It’s an interesting experience, this floating library with 290 volunteers on board who bring intellectual property to people and carry it around the world. I’m very happy that Bahrain once again agreed to host it,” German Ambassador to Bahrain Clemens Hach said.

The ship’s previous visit was in Manama in 2013, when it welcomed around 51,000 visitors.

“It is clear that Bahrain is a country with a strong intellectual scene. I think it is something that suits the nature of Bahrain, a country known for its relationship with the sea,” the ambassador said.

Farooq Zubari, Chief Financial Officer, APM Terminals Bahrain, welcomed Logos Hope to Bahrain.

He said, “We welcome families and children to visit the book fair and experience this unique cultural experience.” I am sure all of you will find excitement here in Bahrain. “

Maysoon Mohamed Sabker, Director of Communications and Marketing at MTT, said that the ministry is working to ensure suitable infrastructure and a welcoming environment to attract large cruise ships and highlight Bahrain’s role in the maritime industry.

She pointed out that hosting Logos Hope in Bahrain is an opportunity to introduce the public and the future generation of seafarers to the port sector, enable them to board the ship, meet the crew members directly and learn more about the maritime sector.

Visitors to Logos Hope are offered an expanded collection of more than 5,000 different titles from the books on board. Since 1970, the ship has welcomed more than 49 million visitors. On each port visit, efforts are made to ensure that materials are available in the local language.
