Manama, October 17 (BNA) The National Initiative for Agricultural Development (NIAD) launched a bold campaign to expand Bahrain’s green area by planting more than 50,000 trees and shrubs.
The Forever Green campaign will be under the patronage of Her Royal Highness Princess Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa, wife of His Majesty the King and Chair of the Nyad Advisory Council.
It aims to support state strategies by coordinating with the public and private sectors to sustain the development of the agricultural sector in Bahrain, highlighting the aesthetic features of the Kingdom and its interest in agriculture as a historical legacy, and striving to increase and expand green spaces. Area.
Trees and shrubs will be planted in the four governorates of the Kingdom on an area of more than 70,000 square meters and more than 21,000 linear meters during the first phase, which will run until March 2022.
Several government and private institutions and professionals interested in agriculture will join the NIAD.
More partnerships will be achieved in pursuit of campaign goals that align with the thirteenth and fourteenth sustainable development goals.
The national campaign includes encouraging the private sector to support projects to increase the green area in the Kingdom, with its positive effects that contribute to achieving sustainable development and enhancing the quality of life.
It also seeks to motivate citizens and residents to pay more attention to home farming and educate school and university students about agriculture as an integral part of the food and health security strategy and as an important component of the Kingdom’s national economy.
The National Initiative for Agricultural Development was launched in 2010 under the patronage of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, His Royal Highness Princess Sabeeka, to unite and support the efforts of the relevant authorities in the agricultural sector in order to improve and empower it. to achieve its economic, social and environmental goals.
