Bahrain to play USA in IHF Men’s World Championship main round

Stockholm, Jan. 18 (BNA): The Bahraini national handball team will meet the United States of America on Thursday in the first match of the main round of the 28th World Men’s Handball Championship, which is currently being hosted by Poland and Sweden.

Bahrain beat Belgium last night 30-28 in its last match in Group H, to achieve its first victory in the tournament and qualify for the main round.

This is the second time in a row that Bahrain has qualified for the main round of the tournament, after its first ever appearance in the second stage in the 2021 edition of the tournament.

The victory meant that Bahrain finished second in the four-team group table with three points, behind defending champions Denmark, who won all three of their matches in the preliminary round to finish with six points.

Belgium came in third place with two points, while Tunisia, which drew in its first match with Bahrain and lost the remaining two points, occupied last place with only one point.

According to tournament rules, the top three teams from each of the eight groups move on to the main round while the last-placed teams play the President’s Cup.
