Bahrain to hold run-off elections on Saturday

Manama, Nov. 18 (BNA): Bahraini voters will go to the polls tomorrow for the re-run of the 2022 parliamentary and municipal elections.

Polling stations will open their doors in 34 electoral districts and 24 municipal districts from 8:00 am to 8:00 pm.

Six parliamentary candidates and seven municipalities achieved landslide victories during the first round of the 2022 elections, and 73% of eligible voters participated in them, according to figures published by the Supreme Committee to Supervise Elections Integrity.

Run-off seats will be contested between the top two candidates from each constituency in which no one has achieved a 50% victory.

The first round of this year’s elections witnessed a wide participation of female voters, amounting to 48%.

Of the 95 female candidates, of whom 73 were in the parliamentary elections and 22 in the municipal elections, only two women won two seats, one in the House of Representatives and the other in the municipal councils. Meanwhile, 8 parliamentary candidates and 6 municipalities are competing in the run-off on Saturday.

Bahraini youth also participated greatly in the first round of the 2022 elections, as young voters represented 45% of those who cast their votes, reflecting their great awareness and eagerness to assume their national responsibilities.
