Bahrain will continue to manage air traffic over the international waters of the Arabian Gulf, following the decision of the International Civil Aviation Organization

Manama, March 12 (BNA): Bahraini Minister of Transport and Communications, His Excellency Eng. Kamal bin Ahmed Mohammed announced, today, that the Council of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) decided that the Kingdom of Bahrain would continue to manage air traffic in the skies over international waters north of the Arabian Gulf extending from the borders. From the FIR of the United Arab Emirates (FIR) to the borders of the FIR of the State of Kuwait.

His Excellency M. Kamal bin Ahmed Mohammed welcomed the decision, which followed the outcome of the 225th session of the ICAO Council.

All member states of the Council commended the long-term air navigation services provided by the Kingdom of Bahrain. The Kingdom has successfully managed the ICAO mandate since 1959, providing safe and effective air traffic control services that have been approved by the International Civil Aviation Organization and airlines that use the airspace.

In line with international laws that give states the right to exclusive sovereignty over the airspace over their territory, the establishment of the Doha FIR has been approved to include the airspace over the territory and waters of the State of Qatar.

The Council stressed the continued importance of conducting the necessary technical studies to ensure the safety and efficiency of air traffic operations, in addition to regional compatibility, after any changes in air navigation plans.
