Bahrain ready to host 2021 Asian Youth Para Games

Manama, November 22 (BNA) 29 countries and 750 male and female athletes with special needs will compete in the 2021 Bahrain Paralympic Games for Youth starting from 27 November.

The President of the Bahrain Paralympic Committee, Sheikh Mohammed bin Daij Al Khalifa, expressed his gratitude to His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa for his great support and support, which enhanced the Kingdom’s ability to host such major events for persons with disabilities.

The Games Organizing Committee said in a press conference that Bahrain will host the 2021 Asian Youth Games for the Disabled from November 27 to December 8.

Sheikh Mohammed talked about the size of the event, which is considered one of the largest sports for people with special needs in the Asian continent.

This will be the first time the kingdom will host games in its history. With athletes with disabilities from all over Asia participating, under the age of 20, Sheikh Mohammed is confident the Games will be a success, showcasing the Kingdom’s ability to host such large-scale events, and highlighting and raising awareness of Paralympic sports.

He praised the cooperation between various government bodies and committees, such as the Asian Paralympic Committee for its support and trust, as well as the US Embassy in Bahrain for its support and contribution to the Games.

He added that the Games will have a positive economic and social impact and will contribute to the implementation of the sustainability development goals set by the United Nations within the framework of efforts to encourage and empower athletes with disabilities.

The upcoming Games will feature 29 nations competing with 750 male and female athletes with special needs, 1,526 delegates, and 200 referees.

The nine competitions in various Paralympic sports include Para athletics, Para Badminton, Goalball, Boccia, Para Weightlifting, Swimming, Table Tennis, Para Taekwondo, and Wheelchair Basketball.

The Executive Director of the Games, Hassan Abdullatif, confirmed the readiness of the organizing committee, all 19 committees, and 77 Bahraini youths who were able to attract 700 volunteers.

He also stressed that the nine different sports facilities and stadiums have been equipped with all the necessary equipment, as well as the hotels that will host the athletes and delegates.

He added that there will be eight workshops and sessions to prepare for their arrival and care.
