Bahrain ranks second globally in COVID Recovery Index

Manama, October 7 (BNA): Bahrain is the second best country in the world in the latest edition of the Nikkei index for recovery from the Corona virus COVID-19 for the month of September, as the Kingdom continues to rise in the world rankings, which represents significant improvements and enhances its achievements in facing the pandemic and returning to natural lifestyle.

The index rates 121 countries and territories in terms of recovering COVID-19 by calculating a score between 0 and 90 based on nine factors divided into three categories: infection management, vaccine release, and mobility. The higher the ranking, the closer the country to recovery — with fewer infections, higher vaccination rates and less strict social distancing measures.

Bahrain scored 72%, only one point behind Malta, the top scorer, ahead of the United Arab Emirates (71%) and Saudi Arabia (70.5%).

According to Nickel, the last-order methodology has been modified to reflect the advancement of vaccination worldwide.

Instead of looking at the proportion of people who received at least one dose, we now categorize countries and regions based on the proportion of people fully vaccinated with two doses, as one of the immunization subcategories.

This modification only marginally changed the results, so the results remain comparable with previous classifications.

The result is the sum of three main categories and nine subcategories. Each subcategory has a maximum of 10.

Infection management includes confirmed cases of COVID-19 versus the number of extreme cases, confirmed cases per individual, and tests per case.

Vaccine rollouts cover total vaccine doses given to an individual, new vaccine doses given to an individual, and the proportion of people fully vaccinated.
