Bahrain ranked second in the Arab World on the Logistics Performance Index

Manama, April 30 (BNA): The Kingdom of Bahrain ranked second in the Arab world and 34th globally in the World Bank’s Logistics Performance Index for the year 2023.

The index provides a benchmarking tool to help countries identify the challenges and opportunities they face in their performance in trade logistics.

These results confirm the Kingdom of Bahrain’s commitment to promoting the growth of the logistics sector through the implementation of strong strategies and initiatives.

The Kingdom launched a strategy for the logistics sector, as part of a wide-ranging economic recovery plan, which is designed to take advantage of Bahrain’s strategic geographical location, while raising logistics capabilities through many services and expanding offers to make the Kingdom one of the best companies. The index recorded an improvement in the results of the Kingdom across all six indicators. The most prominent improvement was in the “Right Timing” index, which saw the Kingdom advance 58 places to rank tenth globally out of 139 countries, despite global supply chain disruptions.

This indicator measures the pace at which shipments arrive at consignees, and the recorded improvement comes as a result of the government’s efforts to enhance the efficiency of port operations, as trucks need less than 30 minutes at the container terminal, along with increased gantry cranes and dock container handling capabilities.

The Kingdom of Bahrain also recorded an improvement in the “infrastructure” index by 38 ranks, ranking 30th in the world, as a result of the efforts made in developing facilities and logistical trade lines.

Bahrain also ranked 31st globally in the “customs” index, advancing 32 places. This indicator measures the efficiency of customs clearance and border management.

The Kingdom of Bahrain has invested in modernizing its customs clearance operations by developing electronic operating systems, including the “Truck Management System” and “Ofouq 2 System”, by applying artificial intelligence and blockchain technologies.
