Bahrain monthly weather summary

Manama, Jan. 9 (BNA) The Meteorological Department of the Ministry of Transport and Communications stated in its monthly weather report that December 2021 sets a record as the fifth warmest December in Bahrain since 1902.

The average temperature for the month was 21.3°C which is 1.6°C higher than the long-term normal for December, and this records as the fifth highest average temperature for the month of December since 1902. Note that the highest average monthly temperature for the month December was 22.5°C recorded in 2001.

The average monthly maximum temperature was 23.9°C which is 1.0°C above the long-term normal. Note that the highest monthly average maximum temperature for December was 26.3°C recorded in 2001.

The highest temperature during the month was 27.9°C which occurred on 2nd December at Bahrain International Airport (BIA) but recorded 28.8°C on 21st December at Bahrain International Circuit (BIC).

The average minimum temperature for the month was 18.7°C which is 1.9°C above the long-term normal and this records as the fourth highest average minimum temperature for the month of December since 1946. Note that the highest monthly average minimum temperatures for the month December was 19.6°C recorded in 2001.

The lowest recorded temperature was 15.5 degrees Celsius on December 28 at Bahrain International Airport but it recorded 13.1 degrees Celsius on December 5 at Durrat Al Bahrain.

The average relative humidity for December was 66% while the average maximum relative humidity was 80% and the average minimum relative humidity was 51%. The highest relative humidity of 93% was recorded on December 1st while the lowest relative humidity was 27% on December 20th.

A total of 10.9 mm of rain was reported in December 2021 at Bahrain International Airport. Note that the long-term total average rainfall for December is 15.2 mm and the highest monthly rainfall recorded during December at Bahrain International Airport was 119.6 mm which occurred in 2006.

Thunderstorms occurred in one day. Thunder showers were reported at Bahrain International Airport on December 31, total precipitation accumulated 8.5 mm and visibility decreased to 3000 meters at Bahrain International Airport. This unstable weather was caused by a series of upper troughs that passed towards the Arabian Peninsula.

The total monthly rainfall for the month of December 2021 in Durrat Al Bahrain was 15.2 mm, while the total rainfall in King Fahd Causeway was 9.2 mm, at Bahrain International Circuit 7.2 mm, on Sitra Island 7.2 mm, and at the University of Bahrain (UoB). It was 6.2 mm.

The average wind speed for December was 9 knots. The prevailing wind was 40% from the northwest direction. High winds reached 30 knots on December 22 and 26 at Bahrain International Airport and 30 knots on December 26 at King Fahd Causeway and on December 31 at Durrat Al Bahrain. East and southeast winds accounted for 21% of the observed percentage.
