Bahrain marks International Anti-corruption Day

Manama, Dec. 8 (BNA): The Kingdom of Bahrain joins other countries in celebrating the International Anti-Corruption Day, which falls on December 9 of each year.

The Attorney General, Dr. Ali bin Fadl Al-Buainain, said that this phenomenon has become a serious obstacle to achieving sustainable development, affecting the reality and future of all societies and economies in the world.

In a statement, he indicated that this scourge disrupts efforts aimed at ensuring economic balance, threatens financial and banking stability at the national and international levels, and harms the reputation of financial institutions and international confidence in them.

He pointed to the importance of protecting the national and international financial system from exploitation in accordance with the legal, administrative and operational frameworks to confront these threats.

He highlighted the preventive measures applied to the financial sector and other fields and public institutions, stressing the endeavor to enhance transparency and the principles of public integrity necessary to confront corruption.

Dr. Al-Buainain said, “These preventive measures had the greatest impact in enabling Bahrain to enhance its competitiveness and strengthen its position in many indicators, according to the classification of regional and international institutions and organizations.”

Dr. Al-Buainain highlighted the efforts made by the Public Prosecution to establish a legal system capable of combating corruption crimes in all its forms through structural development.

He praised the efforts made by all parties concerned with combating corruption, through initiatives aimed at strengthening the principles of transparency, integrity, direct oversight and financial oversight.

He stressed that Bahrain is taking steps in light of the development process led by His Majesty King Hamad bin Hamad Al Khalifa, with the support of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister.
