Istanbul, October 23 (BNA) The Ministry of Information participated in the twelfth session of the Islamic Conference of Information Ministers, which was organized by the General Secretariat of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation in Istanbul on October 21 and 22.
The session, which was titled “Combating Misinformation and Islamophobia in the Post-Truth Era,” was attended by ministers and high-level representatives from 57 countries.
Undersecretary of the Ministry of Information, Dr. Abdul Rahman Muhammad Bahr, headed the delegation of the Kingdom of Bahrain on behalf of the Minister of Information, Dr. Ramadan bin Abdullah Al Nuaimi.
In his speech, Bahr stressed that raising and enhancing the level of information within the Islamic world is a fundamental issue to enhance the ability of the OIC countries to face the prevailing challenges and their various dimensions and effects.
He pointed out that at the invitation of His Majesty the King, Bahrain will receive a historic official visit in November from His Holiness Pope Francis and His Eminence Dr. Ahmed Al-Tayeb, Imam of Al-Azhar, to participate in the “Bahrain Forum”. For Dialogue: East and West for Human Coexistence.
The visit of the two prominent religious leaders reinforces Bahrain’s commitment to building bridges between religious, sect, intellectual, cultural and media leaders around the world.
It also confirms the Kingdom of Bahrain’s keenness to achieve closer rapprochement and deeper cooperation between peoples and cultures thanks to its history of human generosity and its initiatives to promote coexistence, peace, stability and friendliness for the sake of humanity and prosperity.
He said, “Private and public media institutions bear a great responsibility in expressing the policies and orientations of countries that derive from our true Islamic religion, which encourage humanity to peace, cooperation and development for all.”
He stressed that the current stage needs to intensify coordination and media cooperation at the level of Arab and Islamic countries so that the media can express more clearly their unified position in light of the circumstances the world is facing.
Al-Wakeel stressed the importance of building media messages capable of effective communication with others and conveying our views based on the principles of Islam that highlight mercy, coexistence, brotherhood and moderation, and reject extremism and fanaticism.
He called for Islamic discourses that keep pace with the rapid developments in the media, especially amid the increasing numbers and influence of social media.
Bahar also called for strengthening cultural and media exchanges between member states in all matters that promote peace, security and cooperation.
