Back home: Erling Haaland completes move to Man City

London, June 13 (BNA) The Norwegian striker completed his move to Manchester City from Borussia Dortmund for 60 million euros ($63 million) today, Monday, to confirm his return to England, the country in which he was born.

His father, Alf-Inge, played for City in the Premier League and captained for a brief period from 2000 to 2003, Erling supported the team as a child, often going to Maine Road – the club’s former home – with his mother to watch his father play. He posted on social media pictures of himself wearing the City shirt when he was young.

Haaland said his family connections were among the reasons he joined City despite the interest of several other top clubs in Europe, according to the Associated Press.

Haaland, who is considered one of the best young players in the world alongside Kylian Mbappe, will join the five-year deal.

City have activated the release clause in Haaland’s contract with Dortmund and are eyeing a star on the cheap.

Former England striker Gary Lineker described Haaland’s signing as “a defining moment in the Premier League”.

Haaland scored 20 goals in 21 games with Norway and scored 86 goals in 89 games in two and a half seasons with Dortmund.

Before that, he was at Molde in Norway and then at Salzburg in Austria, where he initially caught the attention of Europe’s top clubs thanks to his performances in the Champions League.

This is a competition that has proven elusive for City despite spending huge on players under their ownership in Abu Dhabi since 2008.

Haaland’s arrival should improve City’s chances of becoming European champions – his cellphone’s ringtone is the Champions League anthem – and retaining the Premier League title.

Pep Guardiola’s side did not play as an off-field striker last season but successfully defended the league title and reached the Champions League semi-finals.
