Manama, December 10 (BNA) Public Prosecutor Dr. Ali bin Fadel Al-Buainain described the protection of human rights as the main pillar for achieving development in its various aspects. In the celebration of Human Rights Day, he pointed out that the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, with its lofty values and noble goals, represents an important development in human history.
He added that the Kingdom of Bahrain, under the leadership of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, is rich in pioneering human rights achievements and public freedoms. He pointed out that the Kingdom has become a model that enjoys international praise and appreciation, with the availability of national human rights, oversight and judicial mechanisms aimed at protecting human rights in the criminal justice system.
The Attorney General affirmed the concerted judicial efforts to keep pace with the Kingdom’s future vision to promote human rights. He noted the steps taken in this regard to ensure justice and law enforcement. He referred to the measures taken to enhance the Kingdom’s honorable record in protecting children’s rights, enforcing the Restorative Justice Law for children and protecting them from abuse.
He added that the Public Prosecution is also keen on the effective implementation of the restorative justice systems introduced by Bahraini legislation, which are based on compensating the victim, removing the damages arising from the crime, and rehabilitating and reforming the offender to return to the judiciary. The Attorney General also referred to the Penal Code and Alternative Procedures, as one of the most prominent Bahraini legislative achievements in the field of human rights. The law is also seen as a major shift in punitive policy to a broader scope by going beyond the painful meaning of restriction of freedom to another type of punishment that can correct and direct the behavior of the convict in proportion to his personal or health conditions, without prejudice to the rights of the victims and the purposes of justice.
