Atalanta grab last-gasp equaliser at Young Boys amid late goal flurry

Berne, November 24 (BNA): Atalanta’s Luis Morell came off the bench to equalize two minutes from time and snatch a 3-3 draw with Young Boys Burn in a frantic end to the Champions League soccer match on Tuesday.

The Italians were 2-1 ahead 10 minutes from the end and looking to move to second place in Group F before the Swiss scored twice in four minutes to move forward.

But Muriel’s 88th minute goal kept Atalanta in the race for first and second place in the knockout stage – which they effectively need to beat Villarreal in their last group game on Dec. 8, Reuters reported.

Manchester United leads the group with 10 points, three points behind Villarreal, with Atalanta with six points, and Young Boys with four points.

Atalanta advanced early as Duvan Zapata maintained his scoring level, as the team’s defense allowed him to turn around and shoot from close range in the tenth minute.

But Young Boys, now out of the Champions League, fought to equalize with a 39th-minute header from American international Jordan Pevok.

Then Atalanta defender Jose Luis Palomino hit the net with a left-footed shot from the edge of the penalty area six minutes after the second half to restore their lead only to collapse the Italian club as the match entered the last ten minutes.

First, substitute Vincent Ciero and then full-back Sylvain Hefty scored, as Young Boys abruptly returned to the competition before they were condemned to return to last place in the group standings by Muriel’s late goal.
