Arsenal stay top with derby win as 10-man Tottenham self-destruct

London, October 1 (BNA): Arsenal carried out their usual penalty against north London rival Tottenham Hotspur at the Emirates Stadium, as Thomas Partey, Gabriel Jesus and Granit Xhaka scored a 3-1 victory to stay at the top of the Premier League. Saturday.

Tottenham’s Emerson Royal further compounded the visitors’ misery when he was sent off in the second half for a reckless interference with Gabriel Martinelli, Reuters reported.

Harry Kane’s first-half goal for Tottenham made him set more records, but his team destroyed themselves after the first half as they waited 12 years for a league win in the match.

Arsenal, led by Mikel Arteta, have won seven of their first eight matches and lead the standings by four points with second-placed Manchester City against Manchester United on Sunday.

Derby was delightful with the top spot on the hits evenly after Barty’s superb 20th-minute opener was called off by Kane’s penalty just half an hour later – making him the first player to score 100 away goals in the Premier League.

But Arsenal gave the lead in the 49th minute when a frightening mixture of Tottenham goalkeeper Hugo Lloris and defender Christian Romero made Jesus easier to score.

Royal then received a red card in the 62nd minute for a needless kick at Martinelli deep in Arsenal’s half, and five minutes later Xhaka swept Arsenal third to leave Spurs reeling.

There was a festive atmosphere around the field afterwards as Arsenal rose to 21 points.

Previously undefeated Tottenham could have topped it off with a win, but now have only one win in their last 30 league visits against Arsenal. They are in third place with 17 points.

Tottenham will complain about the harsh decision to send Royal, but they can have no complaints about the result as they once again underperformed against their fierce opponent.

They have lost five of their last six league games away to Arsenal despite holding them above them in the past six seasons.

“From the first second I think we were the better team,” Xhaka said. “Having admitted that we were suffering a little bit, but in the second half we were much better, and I am very happy to score the first derby goal and help the team win.”

The frantic start of the match saw Gabriel Martinelli injured outside the post in favor of Arsenal, while Aaron Ramsdale prevented his Brazilian teammate Richarlison.

Barty was in doubt due to injury before the match but provided a moment of incredible quality to put his team ahead.

Ben White passed the ball towards him outside the area and the Ghanaian midfielder hit his right foot after hitting Lloris.

Spurs looked dangerous on the counter-attack and Ivan Perisic fired a fine chance shortly before Richarlison was fouled in the area by Gabriel.

With a penalty, Kane coolly beat Ramsdale halfway to score a record 15th in the north London derby and 44th in the London derby overall, eclipsing Thierry Henry’s record of 43.

For a while Arsenal shook and Spurs looked increasingly confident, but everything changed after the first half.

Spurs started the second half in sloppy fashion, and when Bukayo Saka fired a shot, Lloris parried to Romero who returned the ball towards his keeper, only to slip out of the Frenchman’s grasp enough to turn Jesus.

It was a sweet moment for the Brazilian, who sent his fifth goal of the season a reminder to his team manager Tite, who left him out of the squad last month.

Then Tottenham collapsed after Royal was sent off, and Xhaka, who returned in favor of his fans again, beat Lloris with a low shot after dribbling Martinelli, persuading the Tottenham fans to start returning home early.
